You- in your show, you interviewed me, I was running for city council at the time. And we've seen to have come full circle and kind of reversed roles. And what I saw on chats, on forms, it was really a negative vibe. It wasn't, you know, really illustrating us in a positive way. And I was like, “What could I do to bring aware- positive awareness, and to put us out there where we can be looked at differently?” So I remembered a video that my niece created for me for my baby shower, and I loved it so much that it made me want to get into video. So I just start, you know, videoing myself talking to myself. And one day I had a dream, and I woke up from that dream and I remembered that dream. And they ga- it gave me a- the show. It gave me 210 Lifestyle Show. And I ran with it. So- so what we're trying to do is highlight what we've done as a people, what we're doing as a people, and- and what's next for us. So with that being said, with the 300 and with the Voices, how should we hear your voice? How should we hear the- the voice of Sharlette Bates? I know what I want to put on the canvas, so I start sketching or drawing it. And, you know, and then I look at my drawing, what I drew, and it's a good drawing, but it's missing something to bring it to life. Now me as an artist, I say it needs color. So I start to paint it. And that's what 210 Lifestyle Show is resonating to. With me coming- just sketching it out, and then evolving by adding color. And these people had stories behind them, the name of the schools. How can you be great? So I thank you for sharing that. And- and you made me think of something. I haven't asked this in a while. I haven't been thinking about it for a while. But- so growing up in San Antonio, growing up on the East Side, being Black, I have a different perspective of- of things San Antonio. But if you ask someone from San Antonio, or if you ask someone about San Antonio, whether they're from here or not, they may have a different response. So, you know, over these interviews, and even just being out in the community, we ask people questions like, “When you think of San Antonio, you know, what comes to mind?” And we get responses like the Alamo, we get responses like the Riverwalk, the Alamodome, the Spurs, the Tower of Americas. But people don't talk about, you know, Claude Black, people don't talk about the Sutton family. You know, people don't talk about- we had DevSoul in here earlier, Mimi Redd, who sang “Order My Steps,” national recording artists, you know. People don't talk about the many African Americans that came to hear Bernard Harris, who was an astronaut, graduated from Sam Houston High School. And so, for me, I want to ask you a question. And it seems like as people, whether it’s technology, whether it's education–you know, a lot of- a lot more of us are being educated towards college and things like that, or being successful entrepreneurs–we've created these silos where we’ve disconnected ourselves. But now we don't get that- to do that with our children.
