And more often than not, though, it would turn out to be not that bad. I– but, you know, when I– I wrote over 2,300 columns, and I did other stories, but it's always been hard to answer the question about, you know, “What's the most meaningful? What's your favorite?” But there came a point after 2000, after 9/11, where I kind of use tho– that– that event, because the morning of 9/11, September 11, 2001, the paper put me and a photographer in a– in a van, a truck, and told us to go to New York and we– you know, stop at the first airport that's open–and of course, no airports are open. And we got to New York the next day, September 12th, and from then I wrote twelve, thirteen consecutive days of columns, every day. I would just get up, leave my hotel room in New York, just walk the streets, and go back to the hotel room and write the columns. And so that's– I use that as the most meaningful just because of the event itself and– and just, you know, dealing with the emotion and the confusion that we were all dealing with. You know, John Inman was a name often forgotten now in San Antonio, but was one of the Black leaders in San Antonio. In fact, Inman’s Barber Shop was where, you know, during the ‘50s and ‘60s that political protests would be planned, and there would be arguments between G.J. And there's– I mean– and you know, barber shops, especially Black barber shops, still have that kind of feeling, but Inman’s Barbershop was so– was such a gathering point for historic figures in San Antonio and for what would happen in San Antonio. So I miss places like that. I guess we all do, we get– we miss the places of our childhood, especially, you know, those that are no longer around, so.
