And so many people said, “Oh, you should do ra– you should do radio,” because I’m natural at talking to people, engaging them. And I tried– they had a new radio station here a couple of years ago, 94.1. I sent in a audition, they called me, but I ne– I didn't get it. And Ms. Neka [Cleaver] at Tha1Radio, she gave me an opportunity. That was about a year and a half ago. It was a bad gang era. I got involved in selling drugs at a young age and I got involved in gangs at a young age. Eventually caught my first felony right after high school. And– but I had a good background. You know, I grew up in church, my grandmother raised me. And after, you know, some trials–getting locked up a couple of time–I had kids that I was taking care of and I was, you know, making that transition of change. And some things were going on on the East Side that I wanted to stand up and make a statement about. So I created the “i am the east side” T-shirts, which was a movement to show unity and peace. And I eventually started T.H.E.O., which was “Together Helping Each Other,” my community organization, and we– and we went from there. So a lot of people supported me because they knew where I came from. And we had– we got a lot of, you know, attention. We've been featured on the news several times, in the newspaper. But the– one of the biggest statements that we had made at the time we first started was– this was around the same time Trayvon Martin got killed. So, just spontaneously, we had a Trayvon Martin hoodie march, which I think was somewhere between three to 500 people who showed up. You know, when I was– I always tell the story about when I was a kid getting Christmas gifts. My grandmother couldn't afford to go buy us toys and all these lavish things. So we got things that we needed, like underwear and socks. And it's still parents in similar situations where they can't afford to give their kids things or buy their kids school supplies. So if I'm able to, you know, take a hundred dollars and go to the mall or, you know, go to Walmart and buy something, or reach out to my Facebook friends and say, “Hey, would y’all mind, you know, donating toys?” And it's been a tremendous giving. People have given, just, you know, like it’s nothing, you know? And It’s been a blessing to be able to help people. But if I come to you and I'm able to tell you my story, what I went through, the struggles that I went through, then you could understand better why I act a certain way, why I do certain things, why I believe certain things. Because hearing things from other people, or hearing bits and pieces, you’ll never really get a full understanding.
