And not only just for me, but in order to account for that system. That's- that's a big problem with our schools right now is there is nobody there to account for those failures or that mediocrity and say, “No, this is B.S. You need to do better for not only my kid, but my community and my city.” So going on to the- the career focus, yeah, I was horrible at math, obviously. I went in– so I got accepted into UT [University of Texas] Austin as a– on a– was it probationary pass or whatever? So they says, do your first year at UTSA [University of Texas at San Antonio]. And I was on an aerospace engineering–I wanted to be an astronaut–aerospace engineering degree. Man, I t– I was taking five classes, and one of them was college algebra. Bruh, when I tell you I didn’t even show up for the classes after the first two, I didn’t even show up. I passed all my other classes with flying colors. College algebra, it was intimidating. I didn't know what I was doing. I had just learned Algebra 1. I don't know Precal, I didn’t know all this stuff. They just passed me ‘cause they needed the numbers. So I- I dropped out of college, and then I was like, “Alright, well, I guess I'm going into the Air Force.” I mean, it was- it was really a second choice for me. It wasn't a primary decision. At the end of the day, there's a lot of history in San Antonio, right? So 300 Voices in 300 Days, our goal is to highlight African American contributions over these 300 years. And so we'd like to look at–when we can–past, present, and future. Sometimes it’s– you know, we can't. You know, sometimes people are a little older and they can't r– you know, they don't know what's going on now. And sometimes people like us, and they don't really have a connection– they may not have a connection to 100 years ago, or fifty years ago. With that being said, though, you're very rooted in our community. So I think you can look at- at least just your piece of the community and say, “This is where we was, this is where we are, and this is, hopefully, where we're going.” Put people with those things, though. So in the past, growing up, who in the community–and I know you love your mother and father–but who in the community did you look at and was like, “Wow.”? Whether it might have been a teacher or principal, it might have been a coach, it might have been a business owner, a athlete, whatever. And yeah, that was– that was really a big role model for me. I mean, you know, of course I have– my uncle Sherman is my top role model in the world. But yeah, I think that was– that was it. And Kevin Shandy. Like, Kevin Shandy is my hero because of his persistence, his patience, like, the strength that he has, the influence he has. He is– he's molding our next generation. If I could pick out one person that's molding our next generation, it would be Kevin Shandy. But– I mean, you know, there's- there's other folks. I mean, Mateen Diop. So I stepped away and I– we bought our house, we worked on it. We were done with that and I said– I got– some people started pulling me in for neighborhood association. Then I got pulled in for Centro, and then VIA [Metropolitan Transit] stuff. Like, I'm in that– I'm in that season. March comes, I'm done with the neighborhood association, and I'm already– so I'm going up to Sam [Houston High School] on October 3rd for– there's a “Students on the Rise” thing that Jason Mims started, and this is kind of my foray of getting back into the halls, now that we have new administration, now we have a new superintendent, hopefully we’ll have new school board trustees. But this is- this is– that’ll be my season to get back in there. So I ha– like, I acknowledge that I haven't been in those hallways in like five years, man. And it's because for three years I was punching a brick wall. And that's not– like, that's not my job. And Charles Williams, you know, everybody knows him, the godfather of entrepreneurship or whatever in the community, and, you know, he was talking stuff about me in the community, right? He get in the office, he won't even be able to find the bathroom.” And I thought that was so disrespectful. And so he was outside, he wouldn't even get out the car. He did like this [makes gesture to come closer], and made me get in the car with him. And before he started talking, I said, “Look, Mr. Williams, you don’t even, you don't know me. You ain’t took the time to know me.
