So, the last county bond that they had, they were building amateur venues, and Wheatley Heights was one of the venues that was built. And myself and Porter Dillard worked on this from– from inception. The pastor at the church that I was at– that I'm still there– was E. Thurman Walker. He was actually on the bond committee, and so they picked different areas of the city to– for different sports and different age groups, actually. And so we felt like because of the area that we were in, I think at the time, it was like thirty Pop Warner andJeremy Carrizales: or TYFA [Texas Youth Football and Cheer Association] type football teams and track teams over on this side of town. So, we felt like a football field and track would– would suit better in this area. The county gave us $13 million to build this complex. Then, the city wound up giving us another 3 million to come in to do this. So, you helped build the Wheatley Sports Complex. David Robinson adopted a class at Martin Luther King Middle School. He adopted this class, and if they finished high school and went to college, he paid for everything. So we wor– h– we worked that– I worked that program, and several others was in that program, for the mentoring for the kids that was in those programs. So Tyrone Darden, if you guys have seen him, he went through that exact same program, got his master's, and, you know, benefited from it. Yeah. So it– San Antonio instilled some of that in us. Sure, we had– we had racial issues, there's no doubt about that, but where we came from, we were so strong in our convictions–because of the way we were raised through our families and our churches–that we could deal with whatever you brought on. Yeah, because when I went to Highlands, it was 3,800 students, and there was 200 minorities, three [hundred] at the most, and you could stretch it.
