You work hard, be honest, be trustworthy. And I learned later on that– we started talking about credit and credibility. They’re synonymous. They’re two different things, but they’re important, yeah. Credit is making sure that your credit card is paid up to date so when you go to use it, they won’t say “Declined”. Credibility is when you call a friend at 12 o'clock at night, and say, “Hey, look, man, my car broke down over on East Houston Street,” and he lives out on Live Oak, “Would you come and get me?” and he says, “Yes. Give me a few moments.” That's credibility. It takes a long time to build up that kind of credibility, you see. And I've been privy to do that. Not that I had to call anybody, but I know that if I would have, they would have been there. So that's one of the problems that I think we make as young people: we don't stay long enough to build up credibility. We build up credit, but no credibility. And that's important, you see. And so I learned to cook from my mom. So I've had a career running a catering business and cooking, you know. Then I was a barber by natural, you know. I draw, I do– I’m into arts and crafts, I do things like that so multi-ta– [transition] So, I was blessed to be surrounded by some of San Antonio’s best, man. And I say that proudly. You're looking at the first African American to build a commercial building on W.W. White Road. We had a little clothing store in there called Fashion East. We had– so, so, that building was and still is significant to me because it was a milestone. It had never been done before. And has not been too many after that. There’s still not too many Black folk who own the building. Now they got business in buildings, but they don't actually own the buildings. And I built it brand new from the ground. And then five years later around the corner, I built a brand new five-bay carwash on Houston Street. So my work ethic and the ability to manage my money put me in a unique position. So I guess there are several things. I'm proud about being first to do this building. Then I'm proud of the fact that I was the second person, black person, to open a barber college here to help young black men and women. And then thirdly, I was one of the first blacks to buy a historical building in the Denver Heights area, restore it and receive an award for it.
