We have so many traditions. The Fiesta, I used to, as a kid, go early, and sit on the curb in front of a store that was named Joske’s. They didn't have chairs and benches that you had to pay for, first-come first-serve. And also my first date– with a man, that I eventually married– was at the Fiesta Flambeau [Parade]. I know about the Lookout at the Sunken Gardens, where people would go and kind of smooch. [Laughs] Those are wonderful memories. In San Antonio, we have a wonderful spirit. The high school athletics– very, very electric. I happened to be at the game in 1963, where Brackenridge played Lee [Robert E. Lee High School]. It was a Warren McVea [vs] Linus Baer. It was billed on the newspapers as “The game of the century.” It was like 57 to 46, the score. And the– what– when we would win a game– no matter what school you went to– you got in your car, you drove from Alamo Stadium, and went up and down Houston and Commerce streets, flashing the lights, blowing the horns and doing your catcalls. The reason I'm telling you this is that's who San Antonio is. That was the foundation for the [San Antonio] Spurs spirit because these are people my age. So when we win a Spurs Championship, we don’t turnover cars and create havocs. We get in the car, we fill up 281 [U.S. Route 281], we flash the lights. We blow the horns and the national news stations put us on because we're so different.
