I know some people are shy, you know, some people have to put on for the camera, and some people kind of have to be guided in how to, you know, perform in that type of setting. Speaking of that, I– I've followed you for years, I know you probably don't think you're famous or important, but with the invention of the World Wide Web, internet, and Wi-Fi, it's real easy to follow people, especially when we don't have access to, you know, TV and things like that. But I know you've done a lot of stuff up and down I-35 [Interstate 35], I often see– I've often seen flyers of shows in Killeen and– and points in-between, and even– I've seen stuff in Atlanta and– and things like that. That was my goal, and I felt like we get looked over because we in San Antonio. And my whole goal was to name myself “Texas T,” be a great stylist, and let the world know. So the first thing they asked me is, when they ask, “What's your name?” I say, “Texas T.” They say, “Well where you from? Houston or Dallas?,” and I always say, “No, I'm from San Antonio.” That was my whole point. I want to be a great stylist, I want to be a great educator, and I wanted to see where this career was gonna take me. And it really took me far, you know, I've traveled the country, I've educated, I’ve mentored. And so it really opened my eyes to the world and the bigger things that we can have in, you know, in life, and it really motivated me. One thing I really do love that– what you said was, you wanted to be established at home first. Coming from the East Side, coming from San Antonio, coming from Texas, you just didn't want to be Dallas and Houston, or even Austin or Waco or wherever. San Antonio is where you from, and I– you gotta respect that. Transitioning a little bit: me, I– you know, I was an athlete growing up, played football, I ran track. And then when I came home, I became a coach. And one of the things I p– prided myself on, being a coach, was how many athletes I produced. Not necessarily to championships and– and the things I did, you know, I can brag about, but how many kids–I was in middle school at first–how many kids was I sending to the next level? And then in high school, when I went to Sam Houston across the street–I was at Davis and went to Sam Houston–how many kids could I, you know, get ready for the next level? When I look at coaches, let's say a Gregg Popovich, you know, here in San Antonio, people don't know this: he may not have as many championships as some of the other coaches, but he has mentored and made so many men that have become head coaches so many places. So when I look at people from different indus– industries– industries and I look at you, I believe your success should be judged by how many of the stylists that you've developed and– and you've impacted in a positive way and given them the strength and the courage and the knowledge to move to the next level. Speak on that, ‘cause you keep talking about mentoring, and I know you love your girls, but your– your arm stretch further than just your household. So give our– our viewers a little bit of game on not just the importance of mentorship, but what that is to you. And if you want to drop some names, you can. I know it's hard because people will get offended if you don't name every– [imitating an offended person] “You didn't– you was on TAAN TV, and you didn’t say my name. That's my gift of giving and pouring in. And it's been many stylists that have been in my presence that’s business owners now. I'm proud of that. I call that from the tree, you know, them are my limbs, them are my– them are my leaves and my, you know, my limbs from my tree. And I'm grateful for that. You– you saw somebody, someone took time with you. I had a friend of mine that we lived in the projects together, and she was the stylist in the projects. She was the go-to girl. I would sit and I would watch her– her name is Jackie White, good friend of mine. She– I would sit and watch her do hair. There was nothing I was interested in, I just was infatuated with her doing hair. And one day she c– she told me she was going to beauty school. And I said, “Well, I'mma go with you ‘cause we best friends.” And that's– that's how it started. And what happened is I fell in love with it. She quit, and I kept going. So, she's the real foundation of why I went to cosmetology. But I had, like, people like Miss Cunningham–that's the real history of cosmetology–and Miss Hicks. Them the people that founded me, them the ones that hit my hand and made me do it right. You know, they didn't play no games of “you can't,” you know. They seen something in me and they birthed that. And that's the real history that I get it from. You know, I call myself from the old school. You know, and a lot of new school stylists don't know that, you know, they don't know what real work is. They want to get in and they think they popular ‘cause of social media, you know. But I call myself a stylist of depth: I have history, you know, I have experience, you know, and everything, and failing and coming up again, failing again, coming up again. And so a lot of people have helped me pave the way. I've had, you name it, I had many mentors that mentored me. And when I see what they did with me, I want to do it for someone else, ‘cause I felt like I wouldn't be who I was or where I was if it wasn't for them, for God interceding and allowing me to learn from them, you know what I mean? And them giving that to me.
